Tuesday night subway fire won't cause future problems: MTA

A fire in a Brooklyn subway tunnel that knocked out service during Tuesday night's rush hour caused minimal damage and won't cause any further commuting problems, officials said Wednesday.
Communication cables running along the tunnel just north of the DeKalb Avenue station were burned during the blaze, which began at 4 p.m. and was put out at around 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, according to MTA and FDNY officials. N/Q/R and B/D/F service, which was canceled and rerouted during the evening commute, resumed by 8 p.m., though straphangers encountered delays afterward.
MTA spokesman Kevin Ortiz said the fire spared the agency's switches and signals. He said the damage is still being assessed, but that any necessary repairs could be done without shutting down service.
