Two straphangers were hit by trains at the same Upper West Side station yesterday just hours apart, with at least one of the riders dead, according to officials.

A man "apparently jumped" in front of an uptown No. 1 train as it entered the 72nd Street station just before 8 a.m. Wednesday, an MTA spokesman said. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to officials, and service resumed on the local track around 9:15 a.m.

Train service was again suspended after another man fell in front of an uptown No. 2 train entering the same station shortly before noon, officials said. EMS workers rushed him to St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital, but there was a discrepancy at press time about his condition.

Police said criminality wasn't expected in either case.
