UFO in Chelsea? Maybe it was just balloons

Were aliens scouting out Manhattan yesterday? Some people sure thought so.

Crowds of confused New Yorkers stopped on the streets of Chelsea to stare at a shiny “UFO” flying high above the neighborhood.

Witnesses said the unknown object looked like “bright lights” and stayed there all afternoon.

“People were standing around, wondering what was going on,” said Francis Peña, a waitress at Dallas BBQ on 28th Street and Eighth Avenue.

“It was like groups of lights … yellow like balloons, but I don’t think it was balloons,” she said.

She added: “But we’re not the only ones in the universe.”

The masses on Twitter joined the hysteria right away.

“HOLY COW!!! I just saw a UFO VAPORIZE someone in chelsea!!!!” tweeted one user.

A police spokesman said the NYPD received calls but didn’t know what was floating in the sky.

Before the sighting, an amNewYork reporter saw several people holding dozens of yellow balloons in the neighborhood.
