Upstate NY woman again charged with DWI

An upstate New York woman jailed for six months in a fatal drunken-driving crash in 2009 has been hit with another DWI charge.

Authorities in Rochester say 20-year-old Tia Gerstner was arrested at her home and charged with felony driving while intoxicated. She pleaded not guilty at an arraignment Friday.

Police say Gerstner crashed her vehicle into an unoccupied car in Rochester early Saturday.

Gerstner drew a six-month sentence in December 2009 after she admitted causing the death of a 17-year-old Aquinas Institute classmate while driving drunk.

In pleading guilty to vehicular manslaughter, a felony, Gerstner said she'd consumed two 22-ounce beers and smoked marijuana before her car careered off a road, slammed into a tree and overturned on March 28, 2009, killing passenger Joseph Mueller.
