Jose Reyes has found another gear this season.
The 28-year-old free-agent-to-be has shelved all doubts about his value with a magnificent season. Entering Wednesday's game, here is breakdown of Reyes’ MVP-caliber start:
? Reyes has played in 64 games, with two or more hits in 34 of them. If Reyes continues at this pace, the red-hot shortstop will be the first player since Joe Medwick of the 1937 Cardinals with multiple hits in more than half of his games played (min. 100 games).
? He leads the NL, and is second in the league, in batting average with .346, and has an MLB-best 11 triples (Philadelphia’s Shane Victorino is in second with six). He’s tied for third in baseball with 22 stolen bases.
? Reyes is on pace for career highs in batting average (.346), on-base percentage (.389), slugging percentage (.525) and on-base plus slugging percentage (.914).
? Reyes strikes out in only 9.2 percent of his at-bats, well below the league average of 20.5 percent this year.
