Don’t expect an automatic spiritual awakening at Viva Vinyasa. Instead, classes at Adam David’s (formerly of Crunch and Equinox) month-old Midtown East yoga studio have a more athletic method and vibe.
“Spirituality should come from yourself,” he said. “I never liked being force-fed.”
Classes: The signature 90-minute Viva Flow class — which David describes as “rhythmic-oriented, using yoga poses as elements of dance”; a 60-minute express class; Caponyasa — a capoeira/Vinyasa combo — and more.
Bring a towel: “It’s athletic and sweaty,” David said of his classes, which are set at a pace of one breath for every step. Making the classes even sweatier? Some take place in heated rooms.
The studio: A minimalist space in an area of the city that’s devoid of yoga studios.
Cost: Only 10 bucks for 60-minute classes, and $15 for 90-minute classes.
