The Dow smashed its record Tuesday, beating the previous high it set in October 2007, before the financial crisis and the Great Recession.

Despite the rise in the Dow, the U.S. economy is still struggling. Unemployment was just 4.7 percent when the Dow last reached a record five and half years ago, versus 7.9 percent now.
