We remember inspiring journalist Linda Perney

Linda Perney, an-award-winning writer and editor whose talent, enthusiasm, and dedication to journalism brought sparkle and integrity to many newspapers, magazines and Web sites, died Saturday.

In a distinguished career that spanned more than four decades, Linda worked for many media organizations including the New York Daily News, amNY.com, The Village Voice, Newsday, Inside Sports, Conde Nast Traveler, Audubon, Cosmopolitan and California magazines.

Born in Queens, Linda, 61, grew up on Long Island and most recently resided in Brooklyn. She traveled the world, and lived for a time in Paris and in India. An avid reader of non-fiction, Linda had a keen knowledge of history and the people who shaped it. She also was an accomplished cook who reveled in hosting parties that brought together a lively mix of journalists, authors and other outspoken characters.

"Linda was an intelligent and insightful editor, and an elegant writer,” said Diane Goldie, her friend and editor of amNewYork. “She brought a sophisticated approach to her work and was a presence in the newsroom. Above all, Linda enjoyed good food, good cocktails and interesting people spinning good tales.”

Linda died at Calvary Hospice in the Bronx after battling cancer. She is survived by her mother Madeline Perney, her sisters Suzanne Niemeyer and Janice Stanley, her niece, Jessica Stanley, of Massachusetts; and innumerable friends and other relatives who will miss her dearly.
