WABC/Channel 7 suspended meteorologist Heidi Jones yesterday after she allegedly lied to police about an attempted rape in Central Park.
Jones, 37, told police last month that a man tried to rape her while she was jogging in Central Park on Sept. 24, then harassed her at outside her Manhattan apartment two months later.
After police followed up, Jones, who appears frequently on “Good Morning America,” reportedly broke down and admitted the story was fake.
She was charged Monday with two counts of filing a false police report and faces up to a year in jail if convicted.
“Ms. Jones has had a distinguished career as a broadcast journalist and urges all concerned to refrain from jumping to conclusions about the unproven charges against her being discussed in the press,” her attorney, Paul Callan, said in a statement.
Jones is due back in court Jan. 5.
WABC didn’t return calls for comment.
