New York's tech scene will be on full display at Monday night's 16th annual Webby Awards, which honor the year's best in Internet culture.
Comedian Patton Oswalt will host the soiree, and celebs in the city's tech scene will be on hand, including Tumblr founder David Karp and Mayor Bloomberg, who will receive a lifetime achievement award for founding Bloomberg LP and pushing digital progress in the city.
"When we started five years ago [holding the show in New York], people were a little puzzled, but today it's the No. 2 tech city in the country," said David-Michel Davies, executive director of the Webby Awards.
"It's the capital of so many different industries, so we really thought the ceremony should be in New York," he said.
Davies, who also organizes the Internet Week New York, said one Web trend we can expect to see more of this year is the combination of social media and mobile computing, exemplified by this year's Breakout of the Year, photo-sharing app Instagram.
New York comedian Louis CK will receive top honors as the Webby Person of the Year for the digital-only of his comedy special, and Bjork won Artist of the Year.
