What to know before you head to Times Square

It’s been a nightmare on the rails because of the snow all week, but catching a train to see the ball drop should be easy for revelers.

The MTA is planning to run trains to and around Times Square every eight to 12 minutes until 3 a.m. on New Year’s Eve, the agency said.

But remember, fare increases go into effect Dec. 30, so if you plan on buying a single-ride MetroCard, you’ll shell out $2.50. Unlimited monthly and weekly tickets will, meanwhile, will cost you $104 and $29.

On New Year’s Day, trains will run on a Saturday schedule and buses will operate on a Sunday schedule.

Riders can expect to kick off the New Year with 10 out of 21 lines affected by service changes, mostly due to Times Square festivities.

Lines affected by service changes are: 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, N, Q, R, A and D.

Street closures for New Year’s Eve:

The NYPD didn’t release an official list of street closures at press time, but the Times Square Alliance said police will first close 43rd Street and Broadway and continue north as people arrive. It’s also likely Seventh Avenue and Broadway will be closed to cars by 3 p.m. And don’t try to drive across town after 6 p.m., from 42nd St. to 59th St, the Alliance said.
