What were those objects over NYC? FAA: We don't know
It wasn't Superman, Mighty Mouse or Underdog.
So what were those silvery objects in the skies over lower Manhattan on Wednesday? For now, the Federal Aviation Administration says, they remain, well . . . unidentified.
"We'll let people draw their own conclusions as to what they saw in the air over New York City," FAA spokesman Jim Peters said Thursday.
He said a review of radar from the area showed "nothing that wasn't supposed to be there" - but said the unidentified flying objects witnessed Wednesday over Chelsea likely were not weather balloons, as the release of those balloons is usually coordinated with the FAA.
Both the FAA and NYPD said they began receiving calls at about 1:30 p.m., reporting the silvery objects in the skies. Peters said one caller described the objects as "yellow with blue lights around it." That caller said the objects were somewhere between 14th and 17th streets at about 5,000 feet, Peters said.
The FAA said callers report UFOs from "time to time" and that usually they turn out to be weather balloons or some other explainable sight. Peters said it is no longer investigating.
