It's official: Will Ferrell is a comic genius.

MTV is awarding the 45-year-old funnyman its inaugural Comedic Genius Award at the 2013 MTV Movie Awards on April 14, the network announced Wednesday.

"Over the course of his extraordinary, 17-plus-year career, he has entertained audiences across the globe," Stephen Friedman, president of MTV, said in a statement. "Simply put, Will Ferrell is 'kind of a big deal.'"

Actress Rebel Wilson will host the awards show where the "Old School" and "Anchorman" actor is being honored.
