A would-be burglar trying to break into an Upper East Side apartment through a terrace Monday plunged five stories to his death as he tried to escape, police said.

The unidentified thief, who cops believe was in his 20s, was fleeing after he was busted about 10:20 a.m. trying to slip into the building at 304 E. 91st St.

He was attempting to make a getaway, running across the building’s rooftop to leap to the next building, when he fell to his death, police said.
