The president's mark on the new World Trade Center took to the skies Thursday.

Construction crews watched in awe as a beam that was signed by President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama, Governors Andrew Cuomo and Chris Christie and Mayor Michael Bloomberg was taken up to the 104th floor, the highest point of the tower.

The leaders signed the beam during a visit to the tower, where they thanked the workers, in June. The president signed the beam with the message, "We remember. We rebuild. We come back stronger!"

A Port Authority spokesman said the beam would not be visible inside the building.

The building is scheduled to open in late 2013 at the earliest and will be the tallest structure in the U.S.

So far, 55% of the tower has been leased to several companies and organizations, including the General Services Administration.
