Yankees give free tickets to fans caught in Mariano Rivera bobblehead mess
If you were caught up in the Mariano Rivera bobblehead fiasco at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday, the team is giving you a free ticket to any 2014 regular season game.
"Our fans were inconvenienced. It matters little why -- only that they were," Yankees Chief Operating Officer Lonn Trost said.
The dolls were promised to the first 18,000 people who showed up at Tuesday's game, but after the truck carrying them to the stadium broke down in New Jersey, people were issued vouchers and couldn't pick them up until after the third inning.
Waits in the lines were up to three hours, but by early morning the next day the mementos were being sold to the highest bidder, with some selling for more than $100 on eBay.
"The wait you heard about for them was true, this is a can't miss collector's item," said one eBay seller, whose doll's starting list price was $49.99.
Another seller, whose bobble was going for about $110 yesterday afternoon, wrote that they "spent most of the game on line to get this."
Inconvenienced ticket-holders can attend any regular season 2014 game at Yankee Stadium, excluding Opening Day and Old-Timers' Day.
