The Yankees bolstered their pitching depth Monday when they officially announced the signing of former Red Sox and Braves righthander Derek Lowe.

The 39-year-old sinker specialist was added to the 25-man roster, with Ryota Iragashi going to Triple-A Columbus to make room for him. Lowe was expected to pitch out of the bullpen in last night's game, which ended too late for this edition.

Bombers fans will remember Lowe from the six shutout innings he pitched on just two days rest in Game 7 of the 2004 ALCS against the Yankees as a member of the Red Sox.

He was 8-10 with a 5.56 ERA in 21 starts for Cleveland before he was designated for assignment on August 2. However, he was 7-3 with a 3.01 ERA through June 1, before collapsing over the last two months.
