The Yankees signed outfielder Juan Rivera to a minor league deal Monday, according to ESPNNewYork.com.

The 12-year veteran, who made his debut with the Yankees in 2001, will be brought to camp to compete with Matt Diaz and Russ Canzler to be a right-handed hitting outfielder. Currently, the starting outfield comprises lefthanders Ichiro Suzuki, Brett Gardner and Curtis Granderson.

Rivera hit .260 against lefties, .244 overall with nine homers and 47 RBIs last season with the Dodgers. The 34-year-old missed 24 games early last season with a torn hamstring.
