Years in the making, Section 2 of the High Line finally opens

After a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Section 2 of the High Line, New Yorkers got a surprise: The elevated ramble opened to the public a day early.
The second section, which snakes above 10th Avenue between 20th and 30th streets, was given an early walk-through by Curbed founder Lockhart Steele.
He described a park that included jasper, wine and sugar-scented air, verdant fields of wildflowers, artisanal popsicles, places of repose to check mobile devices, and a very kooky striped “Rainbow City” art installation courtesy of AOL.
The High Line, which has become a major tourist attraction and economic boon to surrounding Chelsea businesses, is open every day from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
The third stretch of the park will wrap around 12th Avenue onto 34th Street and does not have a scheduled completion date.
