Long Island Runner of the Year: Chibugo Obichere, Valley Stream South, Jr.

When it came to public school hurdling, there was no stopping Obichere this season. She won the public school 55 meter hurdles indoor state championship in March, running an 8.19 and won the Division I 100 meter hurdles outdoor state championship on June 9, running a 14.37. Obichere ran 14.32 in the 100 meter hurdles at the Nassau outdoor state qualifier, the fastest time on Long Island, according to milesplit.com. She won the 100 (12.20), 100 meter hurdles (14.41) and 200 (25.69) at the Nassau Class A outdoor championships.

Suffolk Runner of the Year: Margaret Atwood, Sachem East, Sr.

Atwood ruled the race walk in 2018. In her main event, there may not have been a more dominant athlete in the state. The senior won the indoor state 1,500 meter walk title in 6:49.09 and placed second at both New Balance indoor nationals (mile walk -- 7:16.25) and outdoor nationals (3,000 meter walk -- 14:55.36).

Dieusi Armand, Westbury, Jr.

She was one of the best jumpers on Long Island. Her 39 foot, 8 ½ inch mark at the Nassau state qualifier was the longest triple jump on Long Island this spring, according to milesplit.com.

Ellen Byrnes, Sacred Heart, Sr.

Byrnes was one of the most versatile athletes in the CHSAA. Byrnes finished third in the 400 meter hurdles in 1:02.19 at the outdoor state championships and was fifth in the 600 in 1:34.88 at the indoor state championships.

Jade Foster, Floyd 4x200 relay team, Jr.

They were the best 4x200 meter relay team in the state this indoor season, winning the state championship in 1:41.49. The time broke the Suffolk indoor record, previously 1:43.00 run by Bay Shore in 2011, according to Suffolkxctf.com.

Zaria Fuller, Uniondale, Jr.

Perhaps the most versatile athlete on Long Island, Fuller placed second in the outdoor state pentathlon, scoring 3,461 points. She won the same event at the Nassau state qualifier with 3,192 points.

Kianna Hawkins, Floyd 4x200 relay team, Jr.

They were the best 4x200 meter relay team in the state this indoor season, winning the state championship in 1:41.49. The time broke the Suffolk indoor record, previously 1:43.00 run by Bay Shore in 2011, according to Suffolkxctf.com.

Tatianna Kistner, Floyd 4x200 relay team, Fr.

Katherine Lee, Shoreham-Wading River, Sr.

Lee leaves behind a legacy as one of the most successful distance runners that Suffolk has ever seen. The Georgetown-bound Lee will graduate with two individual outdoor county records (1,500 meters and 3,000), four individual indoor county records (1,000, 1,500, 1 mile, and 3,000) and two outdoor relay county records (4x800 and 4xmile), according to suffolkxctf.com.

Antoinette Miller, Floyd 4x200 relay team, Sr.

They were the best 4x200 meter relay team in the state this indoor season, winning the state championship in 1:41.49. The time broke the Suffolk indoor record, previously 1:43.00 run by Bay Shore in 2011, according to Suffolkxctf.com.

Jada Obie, Hauppauge, Sr.

Obie placed second in the state in the outdoor Division I 100 meters, running a 12.20. She won the 100 (12.11) and the 200 (24.98) at the Suffolk state qualifier and won the Division II Suffolk Championship in the 100 (12.43) and the 200 (25.26).

Reilly Siebert, Syosset, Sr.

The Villanova-bound runner had a fantastic senior season. She placed second in the 1,500 in 4:27.69 at the outdoor state championships and third in the 3,000 in 9:45.23 at the indoor state championships.

Coach of the Year: Stephen Honerkamp, Hewlett

Honerkamp oversaw two county championships this year. Hewlett won the Nassau Class B indoor championship with 112 points and the Nassau Class AA outdoor championship with 124 points. It was their third straight outdoor county championship.
