NFL Gridiron Guide Week 2: Giants should bounce back; Jets have tough task

What can I write after I went 4-12 last week? It was my worst week ever. So where do you go when you need help? A psychiatrist? Nope. (I probably should have). You look to a winner: the Giants. They, too, struggled in Week 1, and became the first defending Super Bowl champ to lose its season opener the year after winning a title since Denver in 1999. The Giants don't want to start 0-2. Jason Pierre-Paul, Justin Tuck & Co. should bounce back after they couldn't get to Tony Romo. Tom Coughlin recently told his team to forget about last season. I'm taking Coughlin's advice and forgetting about last week!

THE PICK: Giants

STEELERS (0-1), 4:25 p.m.

Steelers by 5 1/2; O/U: 41 1/2

TV: Ch. 2.

Radio: ESPN (98.7).

The Jets had one of the most impressive Week 1 performances. But I'm not sure the Jets are that good (Buffalo and QB Ryan Fitzpatrick helped, too). Nor do I think the Steelers are that bad after losing in Denver. The unknown status of Jets CB Darrelle Revis (concussion) has me on the fence. If Shonn Greene and the Jets' Ground & Pound offense can control the clock, they have a chance. But the Steelers are 8-0 ATS following a loss, and Gang Green is 2-7 ATS in their last nine road games.

THE PICK: Steelers

RAVENS (1-0) at EAGLES (1-0)

Eagles by 2 1/2; O/U: 46 1/2

Joe Flacco (128.4 QB rating in Week 1) was impressive in the Ravens' new no-huddle offense, wasn't he? Look out, Michael Vick just threw another pick! Philly is 3-8 against the spread (ATS) in its last 11 home games. Nugget of the week: The last three visitors in Philly's home opener all won, and all eventually won the Super Bowl (Saints 2009, Packers 2010 and Giants 2011). Hmmm.

THE PICK: Ravens

CHIEFS (0-1) at BILLS (0-1)

Bills by 3; O/U: 45

Buffalo, which pounded the Chiefs last season (41-7) in KC, hasn't lost at home to the Chiefs since Sept. 28, 1986. Both teams laid Week 1 eggs, but I think the Bills looked worse. Give KC another shot.

CARDINALS (1-0)

at PATRIOTS (1-0)

Patriots by 13 1/2; O/U: 48 1/2

The talk in New England this week has been about Wes Welker catching just three passes for 14 yards and playing 64 percent of the team's offensive snaps in Week 1. (They do have a few studs at tight end, don't they?) The Cardinals -- 6-13 ATS in last 19 road games -- wish they had problems like that.

THE PICK: Patriots

VIKINGS (1-0) at COLTS (0-1)

Vikings by 1 1/2; O/U: 44 1/2

Colts fans get their first real taste of No. 1 pick Andrew Luck at home. Adrian Peterson looked like his old self in Week 1 for the Vikings, who are 5-2-2 ATS in their last nine games following an ATS loss.

at JAGUARS (0-1)

Texans by 7; O/U: 41 1/2

The Texans, my pick to win it all, must have read my column last week -- they've adopted a motto of "Super Bowl or Bust." Some trends: The Jags are 4-12-1 ATS vs. teams with a winning record. The Texans are 13-6-1 ATS in their last 20 vs. Jags. Both work for me.

Bengals by 7; O/U: 38 1/2

The Browns befuddled Michael Vick (4 INTs), and nearly pulled off the upset of Week 1. That despite QB Brandon Weeden and his 5.1 QB rating (sixth lowest since the 1970 NFL merger). Yikes! The underdog is 9-1 ATS in the last 10 meetings in the Battle of Ohio.

RAIDERS (0-1)

at DOLPHINS (0-1)

Raiders by 2 1/2; O/U: 38 1/2

We all know about how the Raiders struggle when they travel to the East Coast. Blah, blah, blah. The Silver & Black rebound from a disappointing Week 1 loss.

REDSKINS (1-0) at

RAMS (0-1), 4:05 p.m.

Redskins by 3; O/U: 45 1/2

Everyone is "Griffining" after the Skins' Robert Griffin III became the first QB to throw for at least 300 yards with at least two TDs and no picks in his NFL debut. The Rams looked good in Detroit, just missing out on upset win.

CHARGERS (1-0), 4:25 p.m.

Chargers by 6; O/U: 43

The real reason Mike Francesa fell asleep? He was counting all my losses: L-L-L-L-L-L-L-L-L-L-L-L . . . .Z-Z-Z-Z-Z-Z-Z-Z-Z-Z-Z-Z. The Titans, considered a sleeper-team this season by many, need Chris Johnson to wake up already. THE PICK: Titans

COWBOYS (1-0) at

SEAHAWKS (0-1), 4:05 p.m.

Cowboys by 3; O/U: 41 1/2

Dallas and Washington are the 40th and 41st teams since 2000 to play their first two games of the season on the road. Only six of the previous 39 started 2-0. The Seagulls are 6-15 ATS vs. teams with a winning record.

49ers by 6 1/2; O/U: 46

Remember last season when these two hooked up, er, shook up? Lions coach Jim Schwartz took exception when Niners coach Jim Harbaugh gave him an emphatic handshake after the game. The two had to be separated. I've heard they've been using those old-fashioned hand grips to gear up for this one. San Fran is 19-7-3 ATS in their last 29 at home, so I give them the upper hand here.

at FALCONS (1-0), 8:30 p.m.

Falcons by 3; O/U: 51

I don't know if the SI cover jinx can even slow down Broncos QB Peyton Manning. Historically, Matt Ryan and the Falcons are solid at home, but they were just 4-3-1 ATS at home in 2011. Take the points.
