The NFL sent a 17-minute video yesterday to high school and college coaches nationwide to encourage them to be aware of and act against domestic violence and abuse.

Entitled "NFL Call To Coaches -- Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Awareness," it includes strong messages from Seahawks coach Pete Carroll and Steelers coach Mike Tomlin; NFL football operations executive Troy Vincent; Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin; former player and coach Joe Ehrmann, and high school coach Mike Rowe.

Rowe's portion of the video is most powerful. The coach at Rocori High School in Minnesota regularly speaks with his players about character building and life skills. He leads his players through an exercise in which they read police reports of incidents of domestic violence or sexual assault. Each player takes a pledge that: "This will not be me."

Embattled RG3 channels Belichick

Robert Griffin III said "focused on San Francisco" nine times Wednesday. After spending a few days under siege, including from coach Jay Gruden, about his recent choice of words, the usually expressive Redskins quarterback gave a performance that would make Bill Belichick proud. As the Patriots coach often does, Griffin gave short, non-answers.

Griffin was stung this week by the implication he was too critical of teammates after Sunday's 27-7 loss to the Bucs. Although he accepted blame for his play, he did say "great quarterbacks" like Aaron Rodgers and Peyton Manning "don't play well if their guys don't play well."

Griffin responded on social media that it's "unfortunate that anyone would take a piece of my press conference and say I threw my teammates under the bus."

On Wednesday, Gruden said he went too far Monday when he detailed Griffin's many "fundamental flaws," including poor footwork and bad reads. "I think it was a mistake on my part," Gruden said.

Around the league

The NFL fined Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch $50,000 for violating its media policy. It also is collecting $50,000 he was fined for violations in 2013. It had been held in anticipation of his future cooperation . . . Running back Ben Tate signed with the Vikings after the Browns waived him.
