NFL Week 7 Gridiron Guide and Fantasy Take
CHARGERS (4-1) at JETS (3-3), 1 p.m.
Chargers by 2; O/U: 43 1/2TV: Ch. 2. Radio: 1050 ESPN.
A good AFC game became even juicer when Rex Ryan pulled his almost weekly gaffe of telling everyone how highly he thinks of himself. Chargers coach Norv Turner had a Super comeback: "I was wondering if he had those rings with the ones he's guaranteed the past couple of years." Turner gets last word Sunday.
THE PICK: Chargers
RONIS FANTASY TAKE: Chargers WR Vincent Jackson isn't a must start since he's dealing with a hamstring injury and will likely see a lot of Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis.
1 P.M. GAMES
FALCONS (3-3) at LIONS (5-1)
Lions by 3.5; O/U: 47.5
Detroit is 13-3-1 in its last 17 games against NFC foes, but I can't see Atlanta falling to 3-4. Memo to Falcons coach Mike Smith: Be careful during the postgame handshake with Jim Schwartz. Or else! THE PICK: Falcons
FANTASY: With Lions RB Jahvid Best hurting, Maurice Morris is expected to get most of the touches and should be picked up.
BRONCOS (1-4) at DOLPHINS (0-5)
Dolphins by 1.5; O/U: 41.5
The Dolphins are celebrating "Gator Day" this Sunday, as a way to honor the Florida Gators 2008 national title team. What a coincidence: Former Gator great and Broncos QB Tim Tebow will be on hand, but he won't get the win. THE PICK: Dolphins
FANTASY: Tebow, a Top 10 play, should be owned in all leagues. Miami RB Daniel Thomas is also a good start.
REDSKINS (3-2) at PANTHERS (1-5)
Carolina by 2.5; O/U: 43.5
The spin cycle is good in Washington D.C. Real good. The story outta D.C. is that the Skins wanted QB John Beck to start all along. Meanwhile, Cam Newton & Co. (4-0 ATS last four home games) win and cover this time. THE PICK: Panthers
FANTASY: Redskins RB Ryan Torain should rebound against the Panthers' 31st-ranked run defense.
BEARS (3-3) vs. BUCS (4-2) at London
Bears by 1; O/U: 43.5
London's calling, but which Bucs team will show up: The one that lost by 45 to the 49ers or the one that beat the Saints last week?
Tampa, 7-2 ATS in its last 9 as an underdog, rocks Wembley Stadium. THE PICK: Bucs
FANTASY: Bucs RB Earnest Graham was solid last week and figures to get another big workload.
TEXANS (3-3) at TITANS (3-2)
Titans by 3; O/U: 44.5
The Texans usually struggle on the road (1-5 ATS in their last six) and in Tennessee (1-4 ATS in last 5 in Nashville). But I think the trend changes this week. THE PICK: Texans
FANTASY: Titans TE Jared Cook isn't playing all of the snaps because of blocking concerns so he's a risky play.
SEAHAWKS (2-3) at BROWNS (2-3)
Browns by 3; O/U: 41.5
West Coast teams usually struggle in 1 p.m. games. But Seattle is coming off a bye, so no excuses this week. THE PICK: Seahawks
FANTASY: Seattle's offense has shown some life and RB Marshawn Lynch is a good play.
4 P.M. & LATER GAMES
STEELERS (4-2) at CARDINALS (1-4), 4:05 p.m.
Steelers by 3.5; O/U: 43
Was it really just a few seasons ago these two met in Super Bowl XLIII? Arizona, coming off a bye, is 10-4 ATS in its last 14 games as a home underdog, but Pittsburgh is too strong.
THE PICK: Steelers
FANTASY: If Steelers WR Mike Wallace can't go, WR Antonio Brown becomes a good play against an awful pass defense.
CHIEFS (2-3) at RAIDERS (4-2), 4:05 p.m.
Raiders by 4.5; O/U: 41.5
From sitting on his couch to entering The Black Hole, Carson Palmer is a Raider. Coach Hue Jackson said it was "probably the greatest trade in football". Hyperbole aside, how ready can Palmer really be after such a long layoff? The Chiefs are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 trips to Oakland.
THE PICK: Chiefs
FANTASY: Palmer is expected to start, but he's not recommended as a play this week. Chiefs RB Jackie Battle is a solid RB2.
PACKERS (6-0) at VIKINGS (1-5), 4:15 p.m.
Packers by 9; O/U: 46.5
TV: Ch. 5. Radio: WFAN (660).
Can you imagine the conversation when Vikings coach Leslie Frazier told Christian Ponder he'd be replacing Donovan McNabb as Minnesota's new QB? Frazier: "Congrats, kid, you're our new starting QB." Ponder: "Great, coach, who are we playing this week?" Frazier: "Well, let's not worry about that now." Me: Good luck, kid! THE PICK: Packers
FANTASY: Neither Packers RB is a good start. James Starks and Ryan Grant are splitting carries and the Packers don't run the ball enough.
RAMS (0-5) at COWBOYS (2-3), 4:15 p.m.
Cowboys by 13; O/U: 44
Radio: WBBR (1130).
The Cowboys are 1-9-1 ATS in their last 11 games as a favorite. But St. Louis is 5-14 ATS in its last 19 as an underdog of 10 1/2 points or greater, and have yet to cover this season. THE PICK: Cowboys
FANTASY: Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray will get most of the touches out of the backfield with RB Felix Jones injured.
COLTS (0-6) at SAINTS (4-2), 8:20 p.m.
Saints by 14; O/U: 48
TV: Ch. 4. Radio: WFAN (660)
Saints coach Sean Payton (torn MCL) will call the plays from the press box. In this mismatch, does it matter who calls the plays? The Saints are 2-10 ATS vs. teams with a losing record, though.
THE PICK: Colts
FANTASY: The return of WR Marques Colston and usage of RB Darren Sproles in the passing game has devalued Saints WR Lance Moore.
RAVENS (4-1) at JAGUARS (1-5), Monday, 8:30 p.m.
Ravens by 7.5; O/U: 39.5
TV: ESPN/ Radio: WFAN (660).
I bet ESPN wishes they could call a mulligan here. The Ravens are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall; The Jags are 1-4. THE PICK: Ravens
FANTASY: Look for Ravens WR Torrey Smith to take advantage of the Jaguars poor pass rush. It will give Ravens QB Joe Flacco time to find Smith deep.
