Tyler Manez gave up one hit and no earned runs with seven strikeouts in 62/3 innings as No. 16 Plainedge (14-9) upset top-seeded Clarke, 7-2, in Game 2 of a Nassau Class A baseball quarterfinal series Thursday to complete a two-game sweep and advance to Monday's semifinals.

Ralph Caccavale was 3-for-3 with a two-out three-run double in the fifth to make it 7-2 for Plainedge, which will play either No. 2 Wantagh or No. 3 South Side.

Wantagh 3, Island Trees 2: Alex Shortell scored the winning run on a ground ball in the top of the ninth to give No. 2 Wantagh (19-3) the win over No. 8 Island Trees and force a Game 3 in a quarterfinal series.

Greg Welch pitched a complete game with 10 strikeouts and tied the game at 1 with a solo home run in the sixth. Mike Jeannetti pitched nine innings for Island Trees and tied the game at 2 with a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings. Game 3 is 11 a.m. Saturday at Wantagh.

South Side 2, Garden City 1: Ed Farington singled home Louis Laupheimer with the winning run in the seventh as No. 3 South Side (16-6) swept No. 7 Garden City in a quarterfinal series. Christian Colletti threw six innings of no-hit ball with nine strikeouts and Louis Matarazzo pitched a scoreless seventh for the save.

Bethpage 6, Manhasset 3: Joey Walsh and Joey Schultheis each went 2-for-3 with an RBI as No. 6 Bethpage (15-7-1) evened the quarterfinal series with No. 5 Manhasset. Game 3 is noon Saturday at Manhasset.

Connetquot 5, Smithtown West 3: Brian McKean allowed three runs, six hits and struck out 10 in a complete game to lead No. 1 Connetquot (18-3) over No. 16 Smithtown West in the first round of the Suffolk Class AA playoffs. Connetquot hosts No. 9 Hauppauge in the second round of the winner's bracket at 4 p.m today. Smithtown West travels to No. 8 Ward Melville in an elimination game at 4 p.m.

Longwood 8, East Islip 2: Rob Moore went 2-for-3 with two doubles and five RBIs and Chris Faison went 2-for-2 with three runs to lead No. 12 Longwood (14-7) in an upset of No. 5 East Islip in the first round. Longwood visits No. 4 Smithtown East in a winner's bracket game at 4 p.m. East Islip (17-4) hosts West Islip in an elimination game at 4 p.m.
