No. 6 TCU routs No. 9 Mississippi, 42-3
Playing like a team determined to show it should've been part of the four-team playoff, No. 6 TCU rode Trevone Boykin's three touchdown passes to a 42-3 rout of No. 9 Mississippi in the Peach Bowl Wednesday in Atlanta.
Josh Doctson had two touchdown catches and Aaron Green ran for a score and added a touchdown catch for TCU (12-1). "TCU is a very good team," Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze said. "They deserved every mention they got this year to be in the hunt for one of the four. I'm glad I'm not on that committee to pick the four. They certainly could compete with any of the four in it, there's no question in my mind."
Ga. Tech 49, Miss. St. 34: Justin Thomas ran for 121 yards and three touchdowns, passed for 125 yards and a touchdown and directed a Georgia Tech offense that totaled an Orange Bowl-record 452 yards rushing in Miami Gardens, Florida. No. 8 Mississippi State (10-3) lost three of its final four games after being ranked No. 1 for five straight weeks. Mississippi State's Dak Prescott threw for 453 yards, an Orange Bowl record. Mississippi State outgained Georgia Tech 605-577, and the two-team total was an Orange Bowl record.
No. 10 Georgia Tech (11-3) earned its first Orange Bowl victory in 63 years and improved to 2-8 in bowl games in the past 10 seasons.
Boise St. 38, Arizona 30: In the Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Arizona, Jay Ajayi ran for 134 yards and three touchdowns for No. 21 Boise State (12-2), which raced to a 21-0 lead in the opening 10 minutes and held on when Kamalei Correa sacked Anu Solomon at the 10 on the final play.
