No date set yet for Long Beach Councilman Michael Fagen’s larceny trial

Prosecutors balked Friday at a chance to set a trial date for Long Beach City Councilman Michael Fagen, who is accused of illegally collecting more than $14,000 in unemployment benefits.
Fagen, a Democrat, was indicted in February on felony charges of third-degree grand larceny, petty larceny and 38 counts of first-degree offering a false instrument for filing.
He is due back in District Court in Hempstead on Sept. 12, when a trial date will likely be set, a spokesman for the Nassau County district attorney’s office said Friday.
Fagen is accused of hiding his government job from the state to collect unemployment benefits, prosecutors have said. He has pleaded not guilty.
