Noisy neighbors in Islip: Beware!

The Town of Islip will hold a public hearing at its board meeting on April 5 for anyone interested in speaking about a proposed change to the town’s noise code.

Currently, residents with complaints about a noisy neighbor must acquire signed affidavits from at least two neighbors to bring the matter to court.

Supervisor Phil Nolan said the town is proposing to change that policy by buying at least one machine that can measure the noise level coming from a resident’s home.

Nolan said the new machine would provide a more objective means of determining whether the noise from a property is too loud. The machine would cost the town about $5,000, he said.
