After reading about fining drivers who smoke in cars with children ["No-smoking zone bid," News, March 9], I implore all Nassau County residents to contact your county representatives and demand that they do not allow this bill to pass.

I am not against such a law, in fact I don't even smoke, so it would never be an issue to me. The only issue is that this type of policing of citizens will only lead to further removal of rights. First a ban on smoking, then a ban on soda and sweets, then a ban on fast foods. Before you know it, we will only be allowed to eat salads, in our homes between the hours of noon and 2 p.m., and as long as there is no dressing on them.

It's time we told our local politicians to stop playing mommy and daddy to their constituents.

Regarding the government's latest idiocy and outrage: Now they want to legislate your behavior in a private space "to protect children"?

Better lawmakers should outlaw certain people from becoming parents, drivers, business owners, teachers and politicians.
