THE BUDGET

The district is proposing a budget of $47,004,482 for the 2010-11 school year, an increase of 2.49 percent over the current $45,863,012 budget. The local tax levy would rise to $32,771,866 from $31,526,412 - an estimated increase of 3.95 percent.

The average house assessed at $380,000 would pay school taxes of $3,791.64 - an estimated increase of 2.05 percent over the current figure of $3,715.48.

The proposed budget would eliminate positions for five classroom teachers, one special education position, two librarian slots and a part-time music teacher.

The district is also proposing cuts in professional development funds, in-service training for teachers, and classroom equipment such as furniture and SmartBoard computerized blackboards.

Incumbents JoAnn DeLauter and Rosemarie Corless are running unopposed for seats with three-year terms.
