North Hempstead hires ex-Supervisor Kaiman's wife

The North Hempstead Town Board has hired the wife of former town Supervisor Jon Kaiman to be deputy commissioner of finance, with an annual salary of $78,000.

Jon Kaiman was supervisor from 2004 until September, when he resigned to become Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo's Long Island storm-recovery czar.

As deputy commissioner of finance, Kim Kaiman, 44, will serve as the executive director of the quasi-governmental North Hempstead Business and Tourism Development Corp., according to town spokesman Ryan Mulholland. The corporation is charged with drawing businesses and tourists to the town.

Supervisor Judi Bosworth, who took office this month, said at Tuesday's town board meeting that Kaiman "brings excellent qualifications to this position," citing her social-media experience and law degree. The board approved Kaiman's hiring in a 6-0 vote.

Kaiman received a juris doctor degree from the City University of New York School of Law in 1998, according to her resume, which was provided by the town. Mulholland said Kaiman has not been admitted to the bar.

Kaiman's resume also indicates she has been working for "Social Media" in Glen Cove since 2010.

Kaiman's start date in both roles hasn't been determined, Mulholland said.

Bosworth, who also is chairwoman of the development corporation, said she will formally recommend that Kaiman become executive director of the body at the agency's Jan. 23 meeting. Kaiman would not answer questions about her position this week, instead issuing a statement saying she was honored to join Bosworth's administration and that she looked "forward to working for the people of North Hempstead again."

Kaiman worked for the town as director of legislative affairs under former Supervisor May Newburger from 2001 until 2003, the year before her husband took office.

Kaiman also worked at the Nassau County Industrial Development Agency in the department of economic development, according to her resume.
