The Town of North Hempstead has officially named its senior services headquarters after the late Madge Kaplan, a civil rights activist and former town community services commissioner.
The town’s Department of Services for the Aging headquarters in Roslyn is now known as the Madge Kaplan Center.
Kaplan, who lived in Great Neck for more than 50 years, died Oct. 31, 2007 at age 73.
Kaplan pushed to establish Project Independence, the town’s initiative to provide services that allow elderly residents to stay in their homes as they aged.
