North Hills commuter shuttle considered
The Village of North Hills is preparing a request for proposals for a commuter shuttle from the Manhasset Long Island Rail Road station, said Mayor Marvin Natiss.
The village will seek vendors next month who could provide service between the LIRR station and two locations: Village Hall and Christopher Morley Park on Searingtown Road.
There would be six round-trips each weekday between 6:30 and 9:30 a.m. and six between 4:30 and 7:30 p.m., he said. The village hopes to begin the service in April, he said.
Natiss said the village would enter into an intermunicipal agreement with the county for parking at Christopher Morley Park.
He said the village board has to determine whether residents would have to pay to ride the shuttle.
Natiss cited a survey that showed about 300 resident commuters might take advantage of such a shuttle service because there is limited parking at the station for those who don’t live in Manhasset.
“We’ll do it on a test basis and see if there is enough interest,” he said, adding, “I’d still love to build a garage in Manhasset.”
