Northport junior Shannon Gilroy, who leads Suffolk County with 79 goals and 109 points, is likely out for both the Tigers' games this week (home against Half Hollow Hills on Wednesday and at Ward Melville on Friday) after pulling a hamstring in a 17-2 win over East Islip on Thursday.

Gilroy (pictured, left) still managed to scored a game-high 10 goals with three assists before getting injured. She already missed one game, Northport's 12-2 win over Sacred Heart in the Long Island Challenge on Saturday.

Northport coach Carol Rose said Gilroy would likely play through the injury if it were playoff time, but she doesn't want to risk further injury to her star in games the Tigers (13-0, 11-0 Division I) can likely win without her.

"This is a good challenge for us to see how we can do for a couple games without her," Rose said on Saturday. "It'll give the girls good practice for the playoffs."

Northport, the two-time defending Suffolk Class A champion, is currently in first place in Division I, 11.22 power points ahead of second-place West Islip. The Tigers' first-round playoff game is likely to be two weeks from today, May 24, at 4 p.m.
