A Suffolk county record fell last weekend at the New Balance National Championships, held at North Carolina A&T University in Greensboro, N.C.
Northport’s 4 x 1-mile team, composed of Mike Brannigan, Tim McGowan, Chris Odin, and James Dickinson, finished third in 17 minutes, 20.11 seconds. The finish earned Northport All-American status.
The time broke the Suffolk County record of 17:52, set in 1973 by Whitman, according to Northport coach Jason Strom.
Syosset’s distance medley relay team, comprised of Michael Wilkens, Simon Nwana, Nick Ouassil, and Ryan DePinto, finished in 10:13.49, good for sixth place and All-American status.
The Braves' quartet also ran to a fifth-place finish in the 4x800 relay – crossing the line in 7:43.52, good for All-American status.
Wilkens, Nwana, Ouassil, and DePinto won the Division I New York State 4x800 Championship last weekend in Middletown, running a 7:41.01.
