Northrop Grumman Corp. was among about 30 companies - most of them with Fortune 500 names - that were victims of a recent cyber attack, according to published reports in The Washington Post and other media.
Some of the others were Yahoo and Dow Chemical, the reports said.
The reports did not say what business units of Northrop Grumman were hit, what type of information may have been attacked, or who did the attacking. Northrop Grumman has a major facility in Bethpage where classified work is conducted on radar systems for the Navy's E-2 Advanced Hawkeye radar patrol plane.
A company spokesman in Bethpage referred all calls to Northrop Grumman's office in Washington, D.C. There, Gus Gulmert released the following statement: "Northrop Grumman, like most industries and government organizations, is at risk of cyber attacks ranging from the most complex to the simple hacker. Northrop Grumman has in place an extremely robust, leading-edge network defense system to mitigate attacks, secure our data and ensure business is not disrupted."
