The team worked a lot in the red zone, which is where Breece Hall was injured, but besides that the offense had a pretty good showing. Braelon Allen scored two short-yardage rushing touchdowns with the starters, the second of which was set up by a pass from Geno Smith to Mason Taylor. Cade Klubnik hit Andrew Beck for an 11-yard touchdown.

The defense did have a few moments, especially close to the goal line. Dane Belton came up to make a hit on Kene Nwangwu and Jamien Sherwood stuffed Allen on a series that started at the 15.

Jason Sanders seemed to pull slightly ahead in the kicking competition against Cade York. Sanders connected from 28, 33, 38, 43, 48 and 51 yards plus a hurry-up attempt from 40 while missing just a 54-yard try that went wide right. York meanwhile was good from 28, 33, 38 and 43 but then missed wide right from 48, wide left from 51, and hit the left upright from 54. He did make his hurry-up attempt from 40, though.

Practice ended with two-minute drills. Starting at the 30 with 1:20 remaining Smith completed three straight passes and called a timeout with 38 seconds left before he sailed a pass that looked to be intended for Adonai Mitchell which was intercepted by Andre Cisco.

Klubnik had more success in his drive, although he was aided by a 11-yard scramble on fourth-and-8 that probably would have been a sack with Jordan Clark in the backfield. After that, the offense took advantage of three penalties in the secondary – a PI against Jarvis Brownlee Jr., one in which it wasn’t clear who it was on, and one on Tre Brown. That set up a first-and-10 at the 20 with 11 seconds left and Klubnik hit Quincy Skinner Jr. in the back of the end zone for a juggling touchdown catch. The pass sailed just over the outstretched reach of Jarius Monroe.
