New York state is one of only 17 states to earn a B- or higher for good sex education, family planning funding and abortion services, according to a new report from The Population Institute.

Among the findings for the 77.1 out of 100 score are:

Progress in teen pregnancy. About 71 of every 1,000 pregnancies occur in women 15 to 19 years old.

Good emergency contraception access: New York state mandates that emergency rooms provide information about emergency contraception and provide it on request.

Tentative success in family planning: While the state has made progress, 54% of all pregnancies are still unintended.

Abortion access: Only 7% of women in the state live in counties without an abortion provider.

Medicaid: New York earned high marks for expanding its Medicaid program.
