Tikkanen's OT goal

lets Rangers advance Esa Tikkanen scored 12:02 into overtime to give the Rangers a 3-2 win over the Panthers at Florida, and a 4-1 series win in the opening round of the 1997 playoffs.

The goal was Tikkanen's second overtime goal of the series. He also scored 16:29 into overtime to give the Rangers a 4-3 win in Game 3.

Mark Messier had two goals and one assist in the series clincher and Ulf Samuelsson added an assist. Mike Richter got the win in net, making 38 saves.
