Yankees acquire Sparky Lyle from Boston
The Yankees acquired Sparky Lyle from the Red Sox for utility player Danny Cater and a player to be named (Mario Guerrero). In Lyle's first season with the Yankees, he went 9-5 with a 1.92 ERA and 35 saves in 59 games. In seven years with the Yankees, Lyle saved 141 games and won the 1977 Cy Young Award. Cater batted .262 in 211 games in parts of three seasons with Boston.
