NYPD helps Bronx commuter deliver baby

Three transit cops helped a pregnant Bronx woman deliver a boy Thursday morning near the Yankee Stadium stop of the No. 4 train.
Tamika Snipes, 21, was on her way to a doctor's appointment about 10 a.m. when her water broke, police said.
Lt. Sylvia Mendoza and Officers Yaneli Garcia and Norma Vargas Benitez helped Snipes deliver Maxwell at 10:25 a.m. on her due date in the Transit District 11 station.
"This was one of my best days," Garcia said.
Cops were alerted about 10:10 a.m. that a woman whose water had broken had gotten off the southbound 4 train. Police escorted a panting and pained Snipes into the station. Garcia and Vargas covered a floor with clean plastic garbage bags and blankets.
When EMS officers arrived 10 minutes later, they let Maxwell's grandmother cut the cord, Mendoza said. Maxwell and his mother were taken to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. -- amNewYork
