New York City police officers Kenneth Moreno and Franklin Mato, who were found not guilty of rape charges but guilty on three counts each of official misconduct, have disgraced the image of what a police officer is expected to be, and that is to serve and protect the community ["Cops not guilty of rape," News, May 27].
I have known many police officers who did their best to help those of us in trouble. These fine officers put their lives on the line every day to protect all of us in the community.
Moreno and Mato are not in the same league of those I speak of and have betrayed the community trust. They apparently thought they were above the law.
I must commend Police Commissioner Ray Kelly for firing these men right after the verdict.
