NYPD takes precautions after Paris terror attack
The NYPD moved heavily armed tactical units Wednesday to "sensitive locations," including news organizations, as a precaution in light of the deadly terror attack in Paris on a satirical newspaper, Police Commissioner Bill Bratton said.
There was no specific threat to city sites, he said. The news organizations were not identified.
NYPD officials said they were studying the Paris incident, reviewing video footage and speaking with an NYPD detective embedded in the French capital.
The gunmen were not amateurs and represented the "constantly changing face of terrorism," Bratton said after an NYPD swearing-in ceremony at Queens College.
"They don't seem to be overly concerned with affecting their escape as much as they are concerned with executing their mission," Deputy Commissioner of Intelligence John Miller said. "They conduct themselves in a way that indicates that they have either been trained for this or have operated in a war zone somewhere else in the world before."
Mayor Bill de Blasio, meanwhile, expressed his condolences to Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo in a phone call. His office said the leaders agreed to "refuse to be intimidated or allow cowardly violent attacks to undermine free speech."
