Obama's misunderstood on Middle East

President Barack Obama warned America's pro-Israel lobby last month that the country will face growing isolation if it doesn't compromise.
Regarding "Palestinians hold the key to Middle East peace" [Letters, June 1], the letter critical of President Barack Obama appears to misinterpret his attempt to restart the Mideast peace process. He did not propose that the Israelis withdraw to the 1967 borders. He stated that the negotiations should begin with the 1967 borders -- as have several presidents before him.
The problem is with the illegal settlements. As a Jew, I want to see Israel continue to prosper and to fulfill the biblical injunction to be "a light unto all nations." I do not subscribe to the notion that Israel can do no wrong, and I will point out when that occurs.
I am an American first, and it pains me to see Obama attacked for suggesting peace in the Middle East.
