Oceanside town hall meeting for Sandy victims

Hempstead Town officials will hold a town-hall meeting Wednesday to help Oceanside and Island Park residents still struggling in the aftermath of superstorm Sandy.
Hempstead Town Senior Councilman Anthony Santino and members of the town building department will explain how the town has streamlined the building permit process. The meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. in Oceanside High School, 3160 Skillman Ave.
The building department is waiving all permit fees for storm-related structural repairs and temporary housing trailers for residents of unincorporated areas who are seeking to rebuild or make repairs to storm-damaged homes. The town is also waiving building variance requirements for town residents who want to rebuild their homes at higher elevations to meet FEMA flood standards, officials said.
“Hempstead Town stands alongside residents as they begin to rebuild their homes, communities and livelihoods after this devastating hurricane,” Santino said in a statement.
