You'll find plenty of horsepower on the parking field at Belmont Park for its "Best Cars on Long Island" car show and swap meet.
Hundreds of classics from the '50s through the '70s will compete in the judged show over two days. In the market for a collectible car? Check out the Car Corral with all years, makes and models for sale. Saturday, a "Junkyard Jamboree" will take place with merchandise and used car parts for sale. All told, it's an immersive weekend for antique-car lovers.
2. Everclear
Pop rockers Everclear -- you know their hit song, "Father of Mine" -- play a concert at Long Island's newest entertainment complex, The Emporium in Patchogue, where they'll be joined by the Southern California rock band Eve 6.

3. Vintage Book and Ephemera Fair
Get a nostalgic vibe turning the pages of rare and unusual old books along with paper products from Broadway Playbills to stamps and maps at this two-day show and sale. If you've got an old book or a precious stamp hanging around the house, bring it over for an on-site appraisal 1-3 p.m. Sunday ($5 per item).

4. Jones Beach Classic
Fall's a fine time of year for fishing -- try your luck reeling in the heaviest striped bass or bluefish at a surf-fishing contest that runs from Jones Beach to Robert Moses State Park. The weekend-long tournament is timed to coincide with the fall southern fish migration. To participate, preregister at the Jones Beach Fishing Station -- cash and equipment prizes will be awarded for the top three catches.

5. Antiques show
The Northport Historical Society's annual antiques show is a particularly good event to browse through collectibles from the 18th and 19th centuries. 6. Meet J.R. Martinez
The author and Iraq War veteran also made a big splash on "Dancing With the Stars." He discusses and signs copies of his new memoir, "Full of Heart," Tuesday night at Book Revue in Huntington. His story relates the experience of sustaining severe war injuries and finding motivation to persevere.

7. Spanish show for kids
Storyteller David Gonzalez celebrates the people and cultures of the Spanish-speaking world as part of "Fiesta!" at Guild Hall. The free program includes memorable characters and positive messages for children told in a storybook format accompanied by a pianist. Before the show, kids can partake in an arts and crafts workshop to make paper-bag piñatas and Mexican paper flowers.
