Off-duty NYPD cop kills wife, himself, police say
An off-duty NYPD officer shot his wife to death on a Queens street Wednesday night near their home before turning the gun on himself, police said.
The 33-year-old officer was later found inside the home on Camden Avenue in the Hollis section of Queens with a gunshot wound to the head, police said.
He was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the shooting, just before 8 p.m. A gun of unknown caliber and model was recovered from inside the home, police said.
The unidentified woman, 46, was an off-duty school safety agent, according to The Associated Press.
She was shot multiple times outside a home on Camden Avenue, a few doors down from the couple's residence, police said. The woman was taken to Queens Hospital Center, where she was pronounced dead.
The officer was an eight-year veteran of the NYPD, according to a WABC news report.
