Off the Wall: Oscars, Oscars, more Oscars
Off the Wall has never been nominated for anything.
OSCARS OVERDOSE How much can you stand? There's Oscar-tivity everywhere, not least starting with the piggyback "Spirit Awards" (Saturday night at 10, IFC) for indie films, hosted by Seth Rogen. Other preliminaries include "Academy Awards Nominees Special" (Saturday at 9:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., Sunday at 5:30 p.m., Reelz), "Academy Awards Preview Special" (Saturday at noon, tomorrow at 4 p.m., TV Guide Network), "BET Takes Hollywood" (Sunday at 10 a.m., BET), and "Countdown to the Red Carpet" (Sunday 1:30-5:30 p.m., E!). Before Billy Crystal hosts the actual ceremony -- "The 84th Academy Awards" (Sunday 8:30-11:30 p.m., ABC/7) -- there's the live arrivals action of Sunday's "On the Red Carpet" (4:30-6 and 6:30-7 p.m., WABC/7), "Live From the Red Carpet" (5:30-8:30 p.m., E!), "Live From the Academy Awards" (6-8 p.m., WPIX/11), "Red Carpet" (6-8 p.m., Reelz), and the official "Oscars Red Carpet Live" (7-8:30 p.m., ABC/7). After the ceremony, Jimmy Kimmel gets the big O -- that's Oprah Winfrey -- on "Jimmy Kimmel Live: After the Academy Awards" (Sunday night at 12:05 a.m., ABC/7), and there's also the live "E! After Party" (Sunday at 11:30 p.m., E!). Give 'em a day to hash over who wore what for Monday's "Fashion Fanatics" (7 p.m., Reelz), "Red Carpet Fashion Wrap" (8 p.m., TVGN) and "Fashion Police" 10 p.m., E!). Nominees, other info at ifc.com/spirit-awards and oscars.com.
LINDSAY'S BACK! In case you missed last week's handy rundown to the comeback, look for handy encores of "True Hollywood Story: Lindsay Lohan" (Saturday at 2 p.m., Sunday at 9 p.m., E!). Remember, Long Island's homegirl hosts next weekend's "Saturday Night Live." Watch her previous stint by searching her name at nbc.com/snl/video.
'SPARTACUS' STACKUP If you've fallen behind on gladiator rebellion action, never fear. Here's a five-episode season catch-up marathon of "Spartacus: Vengeance" (Saturday night 9 p.m.-2 a.m., Starz) to bring you up to speed on all the sex, violence and other ancient adult graphic-ness. The show has been renewed for another season. Everything beefcake at starz.com/spartacus.
'LIES' MARATHON Another chance to get current comes from the hot new adult half-hour "House of Lies" (Sunday 8-11:35 p.m., Showtime) with Don Cheadle and Kristen Bell. Their portrait of scheming management consultants is also renewed for another season. More at sho.com/houseoflies.
HI DE HO! He's the hep cat with the zoot suit wailing on red-hot hootchie-cootchers. "Cab Calloway: Sketches" (Sunday at 8 p.m., PBS/13) is a cool new "American Masters" portrait of the scat-singing band leader ("Minnie the Moocher") who kept Americans hopping from his '30s Betty Boop cartoons to his '80s "Blues Brothers" ovation. Video, lots more at pbs.org/american masters.
HOW TO FAIL Need a lesson in learning from that? It's provided by "My Big Fat Failure" (Sunday at 9 p.m., Nickelodeon), Linda Ellerbee's new "Nick News" report with Tina Fey, Brian Williams, George Lopez and other (eventual) successes. More at news.nick.com.
DOCUSERIES PREMIERES The daring 1976 hostage-rescue mission at Uganda's Entebbe airport is the first stop on "The Terror Matrix" (Monday at 10 p.m., Military). And American icons Benjamin Franklin and Abraham Lincoln are the first two subjects on "10 Things You Don't Know About" (Monday at 10 and 10:30 p.m., H2).
