Official demands Mount Sinai tower removal
Brookhaven Highway Superintendent John Rouse has called for telecommunications company NextG Networks to remove a communication tower allegedly placed near a Mount Sinai residence.
Rouse said the California-based company failed to apply for a necessary highway permit before it built the tower. Apricot Road residents, Lori and Michael DiMarco, have also complained that they weren't consulted before the 30-foot tower went up.
The tower appeared about three weeks ago, the DiMarcos said, adding that it is nearly "on our front lawn."
Rouse sent the firm a letter informing NextG Networks that it has 10 days to remove the tower or the town will do so at the company's expense. He said the town is also checking to see if the company has placed other towers without permits in Brookhaven.
A company representative declined to comment on the issue.
