Twenty interesting things about Pittsburgh and the Steelers:

1. McDonald's Big Mac made its debut and was test-marketed in Pittsburgh in 1967 before becoming available nationwide the following year.

2. The Steelers were born in 1933 as the Pittsburgh Pirates. They became the Steelers in 1940 as owner Art Rooney tried to create an identity different from the baseball team and stir fan interest.

3. Jets icon Joe Namath was raised in Beaver Falls, Pa., 31 miles from Pittsburgh.

4. On Nov. 2, 1920, Pittsburgh's KDKA went on the air. The nation's first radio broadcast reported results of the Warren Harding-James Cox presidential race.

5. The Duquesne Incline, a cable car system that dates to 1877, shows its Steelers pride on game days. (Heinz Field is visible from the incline.) A sign is added to the left car that reads "DEEE" and to the right one that says "FENSE." When they pass at the halfway point, they read "DEEE FENSE."

6. During World War II, the Steelers merged with the Philadelphia Eagles in 1943 (Steagles) and in 1944 with the Chicago Cardinals (Card-Pitt).

7. Pittsburgh's "almost famous" Primanti Bros. sandwich comes with fries and cole slaw - not on the side, but on the sandwich. It was invented during the Depression so that day laborers could hold their entire lunch in one hand.

8. Pittsburgh has a language all its own, including "redd up" (tidy up); "buggy" (shopping cart); "nebby" (nosy) and "yinz" (plural of you).

9. The Steelmark logo on the right side makes the Steelers the only NFL team with a logo on one side of the helmet.

10. According to a study, Pittsburghers drink the most coffee per capita of any city in North America.

11. Pittsburgh has 723 bridges, more than any other city except Venice, Italy.

12. The first pull-tabs on cans were used by Pittsburgh's Iron City Brewery beginning in 1962.

13. Although Forbes Field is long gone, home plate of the Pirates' home from 1909-1971 remains in the same place as it was in 1960, when Bill Mazeroski hit his ninth-inning, Game 7 home run to stun the Yankees in the World Series. Home plate is embedded in the floor of the University of Pittsburgh's Posvar Hall.

14. Two classic films, "The Deer Hunter" and "Silence of the Lambs," were filmed in Pittsburgh. "Groundhog Day" begins there.

15. In 2009, The Economist named Pittsburgh Most Livable City in the U.S.

16. The first official Ice Capades performance was in Pittsburgh, in 1940.

17. The first emoticon, the smiley :-), was invented by a computer scientist at Pittsburgh's Carnegie Mellon University in 1982.

18. Harry Davis opened the world's first movie theater on Smithfield Street in 1905, according to popularpittsburgh.com.

19. The first night World Series game was played in Pittsburgh, Game 4 in 1971. (The Pirates beat the Orioles in seven games.)

20. The Steelers are the only team to have won six Super Bowls.
