Old Bethpage site accepts waste materials

Oyster Bay residents cleaning up their properties after Sandy can dispose of hazardous household waste materials at the town’s solid waste disposal complex in Old Bethpage between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. until Friday, town officials said.
The site, at 101 Bethpage-Sweet Hollow Rd., will accept solvents, drain and oven cleaners, small aerosol cans, batteries, paint, motor oil, outdoor grill propane tanks and similar materials, town officials said.
Supervisor John Venditto in a statement said the Sandy cleanup effort “has the potential to be hazardous to our environment” and stressed the importance of safely disposing certain waste.
The collection effort was established with help from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, town officials said.
